Discover Palisades Park Sept. 18th

Sep 16, 2011 by

This Sunday, September 18, 2011 join our Santa Monica Conservancy docents for a stroll through Palisades Park. Our familiar park – with its dazzling views – holds many secrets that offer fascinating insights into the City’s personalities and development. How did Abbot Kinney, creator of Venice, get involved with trees? Why are cannons placed in the park? Where do you go to watch the Winter Solstice? Why is a statue of our oft-forgotten heroine, Arcadia Bandini, in the park? The walk is one-way, beginning at the park’s north end, and takes about two hours. Mini-bus transportation will be provided from check-in at the Visitor Center, 1400 Ocean Avenue (in the park near Santa Monica Blvd). The shuttles depart at 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, and 3:00 PM. Please plan to arrive about 15 minutes early to check in. Parking is available in the City structures on 2nd Street. Tickets: Advance purchase is recommended! $10 Santa Monica Conservancy members. $15 General public $20 Day of tour, if available. Children 12 and under accompanied by an adult are free. Questions? Call 310-496-3146 or email info@smconservancy.org.
